Roundup: Wasps edge Patriots



WOODSTOCK -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys tennis team fell 4-3 to Woodstock on Friday afternoon.

MAU picked up all three wins in singles action, as No. 1 Blake Greenawalt and No. 3 Hao Guo each picked up match wins while No. 5 Ben Michon picked up a forfeit win.

Greenawalt topped Nate Segard 7-5, 6-2 for the win while Guo won 6-3, 7-5 over Ray Kurek.

At No. 2 singles, Brian Murphy fell to Woodstock's Doug Avellino 3-6, 2-6 and at No. 4 singles, Flavio Iudica fell to Alex Shepard 5-7, 6-2, (9-11).

Both MAU doubles teams fell in straight sets.

MAU falls to 1-2 while Woodstock improves to 4-0. MAU returns to action on Monday against Hartford.

BBA girls serve Bratt

MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls tennis team rolled to its third victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Brattleboro on Friday.

Maddy Pagnucco, Jordan Harmon, Gabby Vella, Stella Oh and Eliza Breed all won singles matches for BBA, while the No. 2 doubles team of Haley McGrath and Nerina Muminovic won for the Bulldogs.

The girls return to action on Monday at Otter Valley.

MAU tennis edged

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School girls tennis team got wins from both doubles teams and No. 3 singles but fell, 4-3, on Friday afternoon.

Margaret Curtin scored a two-set win for the Patriots in her singles match, while No. 1 doubles pair Sam Green and Julia Parks won their match as did No. 2 pair Mackenzie Kelly and Lauren Volpi.

MAU falls to 1-2 and travels to Springfield on Monday.

Panthers downed

TROY, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School girls lacrosse team was held to two goals in a 12-2 loss on the road on Friday.

Shaelynn Kelly and Claire Seifert each scored in the first half for the Panthers and Zaynah Poore had nine saves.

Hoosick Falls travels to Manchester on Saturday to face Burr and Burton Academy at 11 a.m.

BBA blanks Colonels

BRATTLEBORO -- The Burr and Burton Academy boys tennis team rolled over Brattleboro 7-0 on Friday afternoon.

Peter Oh, Sam Cochrane, Noah Wetherald, Coley Stillman and Justin Tegen all won in singles action, while Nick Fayette and Justin Walla won at No. 1 singles and Cam Marcellus and Christian Webb won by forfeit.

BBA moves to 3-0 and returns to action on Monday against Otter Valley.

Bulldogs fall on diamond

RANDOLPH -- Noah Rizio smacked an inside-the-park grand slam for the Burr and Burton Academy baseball team on Friday against Randolph, but it was not enough as the Ghosts pulled out a 10-5 win over the Bulldogs.

Randolph opened up a 4-1 lead after four innings of play, and extended the lead to 8-1 entering the fifth inning when Rizio hit the homer. But the punch as all BBA could get at the plate.

Adam Maitland started for BBA and Jon Iris came on in relief.

BBA falls to 2-3 and returns to action on Monday at home against Otter Valley.

BBA boys lax wins

SAXTONS RIVER -- In the battle of the Academy's, Burr and Burton edged out Vermont 18-14.Tom Morgantini led the way with five goals in the game, while Max Pagnucco and Ben Alexopoulos each added four goals and Tyeshawn Gadson added two. Morgantini also had four assists and Alexopoulos added two helpers in the win.

Mike Sztorc had 10 saves for BBA in net.

BBA moves to 1-2 on the year and return to action on Tuesday against Rutland.
