Roundup: Rutland topples Mount Anthony

RUTLAND -- In a match moved inside to the Grand Slam Tennis Center, Rutland beat Mount Anthony, 7-0.
"They were stronger than I thought," said MAU coach Ken Turn.
The best match of the day was at No. 3 singles, where Rutland’s Jake Piatek beat MAU’s Hao Guo, 7-5 and 7-5.
In the other matches, Blake Greenawalt, Brian Murphy, Flavio Iudica and Ben Michon all fell in straight sets.
In doubles, Austin Ulrich and Hasiq Qari lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and No. 2 Nick Gauthier and Dylan Bouley fell 6-0, 6-0.
MAU hosts BBA on Friday at the Rec Center.
Indians fall to Horses
SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. -- The Cambridge Central School softball team was held to three hits on Tuesday in a 17-2 defeat against Schuylerville.
Lauren Kelleher struck out six and earned the win for the Black Horses. Rachel Baker was 3-for-3 in the victory.
Miranda Seacord went 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Autumn Clifton also drove in a run for the Indians, who drop to 0-6 on the season.
Panthers boys lax
drops to Johnstown
HOOSICK, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School boys lacrosse team fell to Johnstown, 14-4, on Tuesday afternoon.
Mike Sprague and Noah Labarge each scored a pair of goals to lead the Panthers. Chris Shielding had 10 saves. Hoosick Falls travels to Schuylerville today.
Catamount BMX open house on Saturday
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Catamount BMX team is hosting an open house on Saturday at the team’s track in Willow Park.
The even will run from noon to 4 p.m. and is open to any child, teen or adult that would like to try out the track and learn about BMX racing.
In order to use the track, racers must have a long sleeve shirt, long pants and a helmet.

Benn Road Race May 4
BENNINGTON -- The 26th annual Steve Zemianek Bennington Road Race will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at the Park McCullough house in North Bennington.
This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of local educator and marathon runner Gail Harwood. The race is produced and directed by the Batten Kill Valley Runners.
All net proceeds will be donated to the Mount Anthony Union High School Zemianek scholarship fund.
The kids race will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the 3.8K and 10K races will start at 10 a.m.
Registration is $15 in advance and $20 after May 1.
Runners can register online at runreg.com. Paper registration is available at Wills Insurance, Bennington Recreation Center, Off the Wall, Anytime Fitness, Bennington Sports Center and all schools in Bennington and North Bennington.
Benn. Basketball School
BENNINGTON -- Applications are now being accepted for the Bennington Basketball School for Boys. The camp runs from July 7 to July 11. Players aged 12-15 will practice from 8 a.m. to noon, and 7-11 will practice from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
