Roundup: Patriots topple Mounties


RUTLAND -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys basketball team topped Mt. St. Joseph 67-51 on Friday night.

Hao Guo had 18 to lead the Patriots, while Tyler Champagne added 12 and Ethan Anderson had 11.

The teams were tied up 26-26 at half, but a 22-12 third quarter created the separation MAU needed to get the win.

The Patriots improve to 9-6 on the year with the win.

Panthers fall in close one

SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. -- A 17-14 edge in the fourth quarter was enough for the Hoosic Valley Indians to walk away 41-40 winners over Hoosick Falls Central School in girls basketball action on Friday n ight.

Kelly Pine had 18 points for Hoosick falls in the loss, while Rachel Pine added 10.

Lauren Madigan had 11 points to pace the Indians, while Samantha Carlo had 10.

Hoosick Falls falls to 11-4, 9-4 in the Wasaren League while Hoosic Valley improves to 13-4, 10-3 in the league.

Hoosac boys roll

POMFRET, Conn. -- Traveling to Pomfret Academy on Thursday, the Hoosac School boys basketball team rolled to 77-50 win.

Unique McLean overcame a box-and-one defense by Pomfret to post 35 points on 12-of-28 shooting while also shooting 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. Charles Wingate added 20 points, 8 steals and 5 assists. Cam Winston led Pomfret with 19 points.

Hoosac returns to action next Saturday as the team looks to avenge an earlier loss to MacDuffie. The game will be played at Hoosick Falls Central School at 2 p.m.

Eagles fall

ARLINGTON -- The Arlington Memorial High School boys basketball team fell 74-41 against Twin Valley on Friday.

Austin Hawley had 15 points for Arlington in the loss, while DJ Jennings added 13 points.

Arlington trailed 24-3 after the first and 48-18 at halftime.

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Little League is opening registration for the 2014 season. Registration for the season will begin on Feb. 12 and 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 19 and 20 at the Fire House on River Street.

All players 5-12 in the Bennington school district looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates.

Youth nights at MAU

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School Athletic Department is once again sponsoring a pair of Youth Basketball Nights for the boys and girls area youth basketball players.

Boys youth night will be on Monday when the Patriot JV and varsity boys basketball teams host Burr and Burton with JV action starting at 6, and varsity at 7:30 p.m.

All boys playing in the MAYAA Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.

Girls youth night will be Tuesday when the MAU JV and varsity girls basketball teams play host to Rutland. JV action starts at 5:30, followed by the varsity at 7.

All girls playing in the MAYAA Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.

At the halftime of each JV game there will be a 10-minute exhibition game featuring two MAYAA teams.

A drawing for a basketball signed by the varsity team will be held after the exhibition game for the MAYAA participants in attendance.

MALA registration

BENNINGTON -- Mt. Anthony Lacrosse Association will hold 2014 spring registration on February 25 and 26 at the Bennington Rec Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for boys and girls grades K thru 8.

Scholarships and equipment are available.

The season starts April 1.

Mack Attack sign-ups

ARLINGTON -- The Mack Attack AAU girls’ basketball season will begin practicing on March 9, and sign-ups are ongoing.
