LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP
SOUTH BURLINGTON -- After a grueling win on Wednesday over BFA St. Albans, the 7-seed Mount Anthony Union High School boys lacrosse team traveled north on Thursday against No. 2 South Burlington, falling 11-4 to the Rebels in the Division I quarterfinals.
MAU trailed throughout, but the game was closer than the final score indicated, according to Patriots coach Paul Reif.
"It was a three-or-four goal spread the whole time," Reif said. "Their keeper had some big saves, but they are a very good team, well-coached."
Damon Young led the Patriots with a pair of goals, while Avery Peck and Hunter Davis added a score apiece.
Layne Trafton had two assists. Matt Pellon and Peck had one assist. Jackson Thibodeau had 22 saves
For South Burlington, Malik Hines had two goals.
"They were throwing four lines at us, but we were down two starting defensemen," Reif said. "I felt that everyone stepped up."
Mount Anthony finishes the season at 8-10. Noms being accepted for Vt. Sports HOF
