Roundup: MVL girls lax All-Stars named

BENNINGTON -- The Marble Valley League All-League teams for girls lacrosse were announced, and Mount Anthony Union High School and Burr and Burton Academy had players on both the first and second teams.
The Coach of the Year honor went to MAU’s Tom Otero. Otero guided the Patriots to a 13-5 finish and a spot in the Division I semifinals in his last year as a head coach at the school.
Senior Emily Cross, junior Sam Cross and freshman Emily Altland were named to the first team for MAU, while BBA had seniors Morgan Bazyk and Brianna Brockett along with junior Hayley Sabol named to the first team.
On the second team, BBA had senior Katy Jones and juniors Lucy Bisselle and Ryder Ferrone named, while MAU had juniors Meghan Bishop, Sam Mayer, Catie Lyons and sophomore Claire Taub named to the team.
Hoosiers start year with shutout victory
WATERFORD, N.Y. -- The 16U Hoosier softball team started its summer with a win, topping Halfmoon 10-0 on Tuesday.
Baylee Ports, fresh off pitching in a state championship game for MAU on Monday, tossed a two-hitter to record the shutout.
At the plate, Maddy Ryan had three hits and three RBIs to lead the team, while Lauren Woodcock, Alyssa Ellis and Brooke Young all added three hits each.
Storm start preseason with loss
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- The Southern Vermont Storm kicked off the 2014 season with a preseason game against the Glens Falls Green Jackets, with the Storm dropping a nailbiter 39-33 in overtime.
The Storm led 18-13 at halftime before the Green Jackets made their comeback.
Will Cole took the snaps for the Storm and had a solid outing in his first game under center, throwing for over 200 yards with four touchdowns and just one interception. Marcus Anderson topped 100 yards receiving while pulling down two touchdown grabs. Nick Bennett had a touchdown grab and Nate Sweet hauled in a touchdown on a 50-yard catch. Mike Woodson ran for 85 yards in the loss.
Defensively, Adrian Gruber had a forced fumble and a recovery, while John Mooney had an interception.

The Storm will start the season on July 26 with a home opener in Schuylerville, N.Y.
Lax camp registration
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Youth Lacrosse Camp for boys will be held from July 14 to July 17 at Willow Park in Bennington.
Boys from kindergarten through second grade will go from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. with a registration fee of $75, while grade three through 10 will go from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a registration fee of $150.

Lady Patriots basketball camp
BENNINGTON -- The Lady Patriot Basketball School will run the week of July 14 through the 18th at Mount Anthony Union High School for players between the ages of 7 and 14.

Benn Basketball School looking for campers
BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony Union High School boys basketball coach Dan Sleeman is still accepting basketball players for his Benning Basketball School for Boys camp. The program will run from July 7 through July 11. Age group 12-15 will practice from 8 a.m. to noon, while the 7-11 age group will run from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
This is the 43rd year of the Bennington Basketball School.

SVC basketball camp
BENNINGTON -- Registration is open for the Southern Vermont College basketball camp. Interested boys and girls entering grades 3 to 11 can sign up by going to the SVC website and downloading a camp brochure.
The camp will run four separate weeks: June 30 to July 2, July 14 to 18, July 21 to 25 and August 4 to 8. Each day’s session goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Friday from the last three weeks ending at noon.

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm will host a volleyball tournament in honor of Jesse Roy on June 28 at JC’s Tavern in Bennington.
The tournament will be double elemination, and will feature teams of four. The games will be rally scoring to 25.
