Roundup: MAU tops Bratt, now 8-0 this year

BRATTLEBORO -- The Mount Anthony Union High School softball team posted a statement win on Friday, topping defending state champions Brattleboro 14-2 at Brattleboro on Friday.
Baylee Ports went the distance for the Patriots in the win, striking out 10 while giving up six hits and zero walks.
At the plate, Makayla Farrara had a big day for MAU, driving in five runs with a home run, a double and two sac flys.
MAU scored consistently over the course of the contest, putting up three runs in the first, four in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Hannah Wilson took the loss for the Colonels.
MAU now moves to 8-0 on the year. The Patriots are back in action on Monday at home against Springfield.
Bulldogs top Colonels
MANCHESTER -- In a Friday night contest, the Burr and Burton Academy girls lacrosse team topped Brattleboro 14-11 at Applejack Field.
Hayley Sabol led the way with four goals and two assists for BBA, while Morgan Bazyk and Katy Jones each added three goals in the win. Ryder Ferrone had two tallies and Lucy and Aggie Bisselle each had a goal.
In the cage, Lauren Mackenzie had five saves.
Brattleboro was led by Megan Siggans with three goals.
BBA is now 6-2 on the year.
Indians top Panthers
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- A day after playing out a 4-3 contest, Cambridge Central School and Hoosick Falls Central School met on Friday in a boys lacrosse contest which the Indians took 8-1.
Jarred Sausville and Ryan Jeskie each had three goals to pace the Indians, while Chris Warnke added two goals and two assists.
Cole Volta scored the lone goal for Hoosick on an assist from Nick Schrom.
Christian Hunt made four saves for Cambridge, while Chris Shielding had 11 saves for the Panthers.
Cambridge is now 9-4 overall and 8-4 in the Wasaren League
Patriots smash Raiders
RUTLAND -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys lacrosse team got back on track Friday, topping Rutland 14-2.
Damon Young led the charge for the Patriots, scoring five goals while adding four helpers. Nick Altland had four assists, Layne Trafton added two goals and two assists, and Hunter Davis had four goals.
Jackson Thibodeau had 21 saves in the cage for MAU.
"Our whole defense played well today," said MAU coach Paul Reif.
The Patriots improve to 4-7 with the win.
BBA baseball loses
RUTLAND -- The Burr and Burton Academy baseball team took an early lead on Rutland on Friday, but the Raiders answered back with seven unanswered to take a 7-1 win.
Noah Rizio pushed across the first run with a triple for BBA.
Ryan Smith took the loss for the Bulldogs, while Andy Kanesh picked up the win.
Cody Roberts added a double for BBA.
Adam Maitland and Rizio also pitched for BBA in the loss.
The Bulldogs are now 2-5 on the year.
Pats topple Mounties
BENNINGTON -- Make it two wins in two days for the Mount Anthony Union High School girls lacrosse team.
After winning a tight contest against Rutland on Thursday, the Patriots returned to action on Friday against Massachusetts school Mount Greylock, winning 15-11.
Erica Hale had her second five-goal performance this week to pace the Patriots, while Emily Altland and Emily Cross each had four goals for the Patriots. Cross also added two assists.
In goal, Sam Mayer and Leah Olansky both had six saves as they split time in the cage.
MAU is now 5-3 on the year.
Bulldogs golf edged out
MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy golf team fell to Rutland 322-327 on Friday afternoon. It marks the second time this week the Raiders edged the Bulldogs after Rutland took the Patriot Classic by one stroke.
Drake Hall was the medalist with a 71 for Rutland while Max Major shot a 72 for the Raiders.
For BBA, Hunter Caler led with a 75 and Will Tate shot an 81.
The Bulldogs are now 4-2.
MAU boys tennis falls
WESTMINSTER -- Despite the threat of rain on Friday, the Mount Anthony Union High School boys tennis team got its match against Bellows Falls in.
Unfortunately for the Patriots, the team fell 4-3.
Brian Murphy and Hao Guo won their matches in straight sets, with Murphy winning 6-0, 6-0 and Guo winning 6-2, 6-1. Flavio Iudica won the highlight match of the day, winning at fourth singles 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
Blake Greenawalt was the lone singles player to fall, losing 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles action, Ben Michon and Austin Ulrich fell 6-4, 6-1 and Haziq Qari and Nick Gauthier fell 6-2, 6-3.
MAU falls to 3-5 on the year.
Bulldogs now 9-0
MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls tennis team stayed perfect on the season with a 7-0 win over Woodstock on Friday.
Maddy Pagnucco, Jordan Harmon, Irene Matas, Stella Oh and Eliza Breed all won in two sets in singles action. Oh's match against Katie Miller was the standout match, as Oh won the first set 6-3 and won the second set 7-5.
In doubles action, Silvia Velasco and Maria De Pablo won at first singles and Julia Campanella and Megan Knight won at second doubles.
BBA is now 9-0 on the year.
BRATTLEBORO -- In a rain-soaked contest on Friday, the Mount Anthony Union High School baseball team fell to Brattleboro 7-0.
MAU girls sweep
BENNINGTON -- In a match on Thursday, the Mount Anthony Union High School girls tennis team topped Bellows Falls 7-0.
Jessie Kuzmicki, Keara Sternberg, Erica Frost, Margaret Curtin and Grace Page all picked up wins in singles, while Nicole Monick and Taylry Tobin won at first doubles and Julia Parks and Samantha Greene won at second doubles. The Patriots' alternate doubles team, Forum Patel and Mackenzie Kelly, also won in their match.
