Roundup: ‘Neers undone in S.C.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Southern Vermont College softball team was swept in a doubleheader against New England College and St. Joseph's at the Snowbird Classic in South Carolina.
NEC won 10-0 in six innings, while St. Joseph's won 10-1 in five innings.
In Game 1, the Pilgrims scored five runs in the second inning to take command, holding SVC to only six hits total.
Kiley Williams and Gina Drappi each had three hits for NEC. Williams pitched a complete game, striking out seven and walking one.
For SVC, Mallory Celeste had two of the team's hits. Hayley McDonald was the pitcher of record, allowing nine earned runs while striking out six.
In Game 2, the Mountaineers took an early 1-0 lead, Rachel Robtoy and Celeste singled to get on with one out. After a Shelby Jones sac fly advanced the runners, Lauryn Zovistoski doubled to drive in Robtoy.
St. Joseph's came back with five runs in the bottom of the second.
The Mountaineers (0-4) play a triple-header today as some of the week's game were canceled due to bad weather.
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Marauders competed at the Golds Championships held in Troy, N.Y. this past weekend. This meet was the final event for the season. Thirteen swimmers from the Marauders qualified for this very competitive meet.
Elyse Altland was the top finisher with top 10 finishes in the 100 freestyle (4th), 50 breaststroke (5th) and 50 freestyle (7th).
Aryn Iannuzzi and Sarah Ascuitto each had top 16 placements as well. Iannuzzi was 11th in the 100 breast, 14th in the 50 breast and 15th in the 50 free. Ascuitto was 12th in the 50 free and 15th in the 50 butterfly.
Also swimming and posting best times for the Marauders was: Summer Nichols, Grace Burhans, Phebe Hall, Zoey Haar, Lily Spencer, Ryan Spencer, Emily Ascuitto, Paige Marion, Kara LaFlamme, Claire Iannuzzi, and Kate Ahearn.
Storm player meeting
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm semi-pro football team is holding its annual player meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. at JC's Tavern in Bennington. The meeting is for anyone interested in playing in the New England Football League this summer.

ARLINGTON -- The 2nd annual Basketball Challenge will be held at Arlington Memorial High School on March 21 this year and is sponsored by the Fisher Parent Teacher Group.
Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children 12-and-under if purchased in advance. Tickets will be sold at the Fisher Main Office. On the night of the event, tickets will rise by a dollar.
