Roundup: Hawley, Jennings lead Eagles past Presidents

ARLINGTON -- The Arlington Memorial High School boys basketball team made Senior Night a success on Wednesday, taking down Black River 68-46.
DJ Jennings led the way for the Eagles with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Alex Hawley made his night memorable with 19.
For Black River, Ben Veysey led Black River in scoring with 14 points, followed closely by Tyler Billings who had 11 points.
Arlington improves to 11-8 on the season and can secure a playoff berth in their season finale on the road against West Rutland on Friday.
BBA falls to Hornets
ESSEX -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls hockey team dropped their fourth game in a row with an 8-1 loss to Essex on Wednesday night.
Jordan Harmon, one of the team’s leading scorers, tallied for the Bulldogs, who fall to 6-11-1 on the season. Essex’s Kathleen Young and Taylor Hallowell each scored hat tricks and two assists for the Hornets, who improve to 11-5-3.
The Bulldogs return to Riley Rink on Saturday to face Colchester at 4 p.m. for Senior Day.
Bennington Little League registration
BENNINGTON -- Registration for the 2013 season will begin on Feb. 20 and 21 at the Firehouse on River Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration concludes on Feb. 27 and 28 again at the same time and place.
All players ages 5-12 in the Bennington area, including former Norshaft registrants, looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates. For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required.

Mack Attack registration

BYSL hosts sign-up
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Young Women’s Softball League is hosting their annual sign-ups. All girls ages 7-12 as of January 1 are encouraged to sign up.
New player sign-ups will be held Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All first-year players should bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $35 for 1 child, $50 for 2 children/family, and $70 for 3 or more.

Lax officials training
BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association will be offering training clinics throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating boys lacrosse.
The clinics will include 2 man mechanics, technical and personal fouls, field mechanics, proper signaling, verbal and visual communication, penalty enforcement and pre and post game preparation. The clinics are free and pre-registration is required.
The Southern Vermont clinic will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.

Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.
