Roundup: Flagg on NECC squad



BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College women’s basketball player Amber Flagg was chosen to the All-New England Collegiate Conference first team on Monday, marking the first time in program histroy that a player was selected to the all-conference first team.

Flagg, who was the NECC Rookie of the Year last year, ranked in the top three in six conference categories this year: first in total steals (67), second in steals per game (2.7), second in minutes played (961), and third in assists per game (3.7), total assists (92) and free throw percentage (76.5). Flagg also averaged 17.1 points per game, good for fourth in the conference.

"Hearing the news that Amber was chosen as a first team all-conference player is fantastic," said coach Mike Quinn in a statement released by the school. "I truly feel she deserves this award as she consistently gives 110 percent in practice, as well as games, and is always looking for ways to improve her skill set."

Denisha Parks of Elms College was selected as Player of the Year, while Michelle Woods of Wheelock was the Rookie of the Year. Angela Stana Fe or Regis was named Coach of the Year.

For the men, Antoine White and Dolapo Olugbile were named honorable mentions for their seasons with the Mountaineers.

White broke the program’s single season assist mark this year by dishing out 117 dimes in 26 games.

Micehll’s Joshua Ford was named the Player of the Year for the second straight season, Regis freshman Sam Jean-Gilles was named Rookie of the Year, and Mitchell coach Todd Peretz was named Coach of the Year.

Can drive for dance team

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School dance etam is headed to New Englands on March 8, and the team is looking for help to pay for transportation.

The team is asking for bottle donations to help raise funds. The team has an account at the Bennington Beverage Outlet on Northside Drive, and are asking for anyone willing to make donations to drop the bottles off at the store and indicate they are for the dance team.

Basketball Challenge in Arlington

ARLINGTON -- The 2nd annual Basketball Challenge will be held at Arlington Memorial High School on March 21 this year and is sponsored by the Fisher Parent Teacher Group.

Beginning at 6 p.m., the current varsity Eagles for both the boys and girls teams will take on alumni in an effort to raise money for the Fisher Playground Fund.

The night will also feature a game between Arlington faculty against the Arlington parents.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children 12-and-under if purchased in advance. Tickets will be sold at the Fisher Main Office. On the night of the event, tickets will rise by a dollar.

Mack Attack sign-ups

ARLINGTON -- The Mack Attack AAU girls’ basketball season will begin practicing on March 9, and sign-ups are ongoing.

The team provides participants with an opportunity to improve basketball skills and knowledge through a challenging level of play. Girls ages 8-17 who are interested in participating should contact coach Kerry Csizmesia at or call 860-326-5024.
