Roundup: Eagles fall in rematch vs. MSJ

ARLINGTON -- Foul trouble late in the game doomed the Arlington Memorial High School girls basketball team in a 57-51 rematch loss to Mount St. Joseph's.
"It was a back-and-forth game, but we didn't play smart basketball [at the end]," said Arlington (2-5) coach Larry Andrews. "They had a lot of second-chance points."
Arlington beat MSJ on Friday, 55-53 and the second game was just as close.
Arlington was led by senior Rayleen Sherman, who scored 22 points. Sophomore Molly Elwell chipped in with 10 for the Eagles.
For 4-2 MSJ, Claire Schmelzenbach had 23 points and five rebounds, while Alex Reedy added 14 points and 20 rebounds for a double double.
Megan Eaton chipped in 11 points for the Mounties.
Valley still unbeaten in Wasaren after win
HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Hoosic Valley outscored the Hoosick Falls Central School girls basketball team 23-8 in the third quarter in a 51-27 win on Tuesday night.
Leading by seven at the half, the Indians (8-0, 10-2) took a 22-point lead into the final frame.
Cassidy Chapko led all scorers with 25 points, including three 3-pointers.
Frankie Pearson led Hoosick Falls (5-3, 7-4) with nine points, while Rachel Pine added eight.
Tamarac rolls Indians
CLUMS CORNERS, N.Y. -- Tamarac improved to 11-1 as they shutout Cambridge in the first quarter en route to a 74-14 win.
Jenna Erickson scored 26 for the Bengals, while Briana Matazinsky added 11.
For Cambridge (2-8, 1-7), Jean Brownell led with six points and Sarah Cuddihy chipped in with five.
Panther keglers finish season 54-2
SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Schuylerville by the score of 3-1 in their final regular season match. Hoosick Falls totaled 3,576 pins to Schuylerville's 3,231.
Hoosick finished the regular season with a point count of 54-2 (all-time team record) and a match record of 14-0.
Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Logan Brogue 222-641, Bryan Callahan 236-634 and Ken Marbot 255-631.
Josh Conn (203-573), Josh McCart (223-568), and Stephen Surdam 208-529 also had a good match.
The top bowler for Schuylerville was Jon Barron with a 226-611.
"The team bowled very well in this competitive match on Schuylerville's lanes. We struggled a little as the lanes broke down in the third game and Schuylerville bowled well in that last game."
Hoosick Falls' next match is the Adirondack League tournament on January 29.
Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.

Monument Soccer signups
BENNINGTON -- The Monument Soccer Club has sign-ups next week at the Bennington Sports Center. Monument is a soccer club that participates in the Capital District Youth Soccer League in the spring and runs from April-June with a 10-game season.
