Roundup: Bulldogs softball earns first victory of year

MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy softball team earned its first win of the season, a 15-3 rout over Woodstock.
Caitlyn Arellano went the distance, allowing only one hit and striking out six.
Rachel Foster did the damage at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a bases-clearing double and five RBI. Arellano added an inside the park homer, and Katelyn Reilly and Sierra Sowl each added two hits a piece.
BBA is now 1-5 and travels to Mount St. Joseph’s today.
BBA moves to 6-0
MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy boys tennis team extended its season-opening win streak to six matches with a 7-0 bageling over Brattleboro.
Every match was a straight set victory, the closest a 6-3, 6-1 win by Christian Webb at No. 5 singles.
BBA plays again today at Hartford at 4:30 p.m.
Panthers upset Horses
HOOSICK, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls boys lacrosse team scored an upset win over Schuylerville, 16-9, on Wednesday.
Damon Dubois and Mike Sprague each had five goals. Mark Hackett added two goals and Charles Whitman, Noah Labarge, Nick Schrom and Jake Bakaitis each scored. Labarge also added three assists and Schrom had four helpers. Chris Shielding made 10 saves in the victory.
Patriots blanked by Monument Mountain
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The Mount Anthony baseball team was held to five hits in a 7-0 loss to Monument Mountain on Wednesday.
Ellis Baker, Carson Cushman, Matt Upright, Devin Babson and Shelby Coon all had hits, but they were scattered by Jonah Christianson.
Babson pitched for MAU, allowing nine hits and three earned runs. MAU is 3-5 and travels to Brattleboro on Friday.
MAU topped by Rutland
BENNINGTON -- Hao Guo was the only Mount Anthony tennis player to snag a victory as the Patriots fell, 6-1, on Wednesday against Rutland. Guo went three sets, losing the first but winning the next two, 7-5, and 10-5.
Flavio Iudica also went three sets, but lost in the tiebreaker.
MAU travels to Bellows Falls on Friday.
Raiders win on court
RUTLAND -- Mount Anthony got win from No. 4 and No. 5 singles but the Patriots dropped a 5-2 decision on the road to Rutland.
Margaret Curtin won her match, 6-3, 6-3, as did Grace Page, who scored a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
The No. 1 doubles team of Nicole Monick and Taylyr Tobin lost in a three-set tiebreaker.
