Roundup: Bears top Panthers in playoffs



ALBANY, N.Y. -- Playing in the quarterfinals of the Section II Class C girls lacrosse playoffs, No. 8 Hoosick Falls Central School fell to No. 1 Albany Academy 20-6 on Tuesday afternoon.

Jordyn Haynes led the Panthers with three goals in the loss, while Hannah Fricke had two and Elise North-Kirkman added a solo effort.

Zaynah Poore had 10 saves in the cage for Hoosick Falls

Indians top Knights

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- The Cambridge Central School boys lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead against Lansingburgh on Tuesday before coasting out to a 10-7 win.

The Indians led 7-2 at halftime.

Chris Warnke paced the scoring, tallying five goals and three assists for the Indians. Jarred Sausville had four goals and a helper, while Ryan Jeskie rounded out the scoring.

Christian Hunt made nine saves for Cambridge.

Tyler Smith-Souses led Lansingburgh with two goals and an assist.

Cambridge is now 10-4 overall and 9-4 in the league.

Hoosick softball tops Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School softball team beat Cambridge, 12-8, on Tuesday afternoon.

Chelsea Stevens went 3-5 at the dish with an RBI, while Ashley St. Onge went 3-5 with three singles. Sydney Miller had three RBIs, while Ashley Stephens, Alyssa Ellis and Abby Gilson all had two RBIs.

Julianna Sherman had a three-run home run for Cambridge in the loss and Erica Dupuis and Amanda Brand each had an RBI.

Ellis got the win, pitching six innings while giving up five hits and three earned runs on three strikeouts. Maddy Atherton pitched the seventh inning for Hoosick.

Miranda Seacord took the loss for Cambridge, pitching all seven innings while giving up 19 hits and 10 earned runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Hoosick is now 6-11 overall and 6-6 in the league while Cambridge falls to 0-12.

Panthers trash Voorheesville

VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School boys lacrosse team picked up a big win on Tuesday, topping Voorheesville 15-1.

Derek Bird had four goals and an assist to lead the Panthers, while Noah LaBarge and Damon Dubois added three goals each. Charles Whitman had a pair of goals and a pair of assists in the win.

Chris Shielding had 12 saves for Hoosick.

Patriots fall to Mounties

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School baseball team fell 17-1 to Massachusetts school Mount Greylock on Tuesday.

Brody Farnum took the loss for the Patriots while Devin Babson pitched in relief.

Ian Brink was the winning pitcher for the Mounties.

Marcus LaFlamme, Shea Mooney and Farnum all had singles for MAU, while Shelby Coon knocked in the team’s only run on a single.

For Greylock, Jake Benzinger had three hits, including a home run, to pace the offense.

MAU is now 3-7 on the year. The Patriots return to action Thursday at home against Burr and Burton Academy.

BBA second, MAU third at Rutland

RUTLAND -- In a four team match on Monday at Rutland Country Club, Rutland’s Max Major led a victorious Rutland side by shooting a 69 for medalist honors, helping the Raiders top Burr and Burton Academy 316 to 335. MAU was third with 371 and Hartford fourth with 415.

Drake Hill shot a 71 for Rutland, while Hunter Caler shot an 80 for BBA, and Joey Shehadi and Drew Herbert each shot an 83 for the Bulldogs.

For MAU, Logan Ripley shot a 82 and Ethan Anderson an 87.

Bulldogs fall to Minutemen

CLARENDON -- The Burr and Burton Academy softball team fell to Mill River 13-3 on Monday.

Caitlyn Arellano had a double for BBA, while Rachel Foster and Sierra Sowl each had singles.

Darien Halliday went the distance for BBA in the loss, while Carly Warp picked up the win while going the distance for Mill River.

BBA is now 2-7 on the year.
