Roundup: Bat Brats finish first in first tournament of year

BRATTLEBORO -- The Southern Vermont Bat Brats opened up their season by sweeping the Brattleboro Summer Sizzler Tournament for a first place finish, going 6-0 on the weekend.
Playing on June 21 and June 22, Taylor Dicranian pitched in every contest while catcher Jamie Boyle called every pitch. The pair went 35 total innings, giving up 26 hits while striking out 50 and walking only two batters.
Playing the defense was Kaity O’Brien at first base, Kennedy O’Dell at second, Hannah Bascue at short stop, Nicole Main at third, Ashlee Billert in right field, Marliegh Greene in center and Emma Myers, Olivia Brownell, and Catherine Worthington rotating in left.
The team got the bats cranking over the weekend, scoring 53 runs over the six contests. Leading the team was O’Dell going 10-17 and O’Brien going 13-23. Dicranian was the power bat, knocking three doubles, a triple and a home run, while Billert had four doubles.
Pool play MVPs on Saturday were Main, O’Brien, and Billert.
The team is coached by Jason Dicranian, James Boyle, and Steve Main.
Hoosick Falls football tickets
HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Tickets are now on sale for the Hoosick Falls Central School football team’s game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Sept. 7.
The Panthers will play the Owego Indians in the season opener for both sides.
The game is part of 10 games played at the Carrier Dome during the weekend, with the Panthers playing at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The school has 300 general admission tickets on sale in the high school office. Tickets cost $7 each.

Play it Forward weekend
SHAFTSBURY -- The third annual Blue Lollipop Road Play it Forward weekend is back on July 18 and 19 in Bennington.
Put together by Mount Anthony Union High School alum Diane Peacock, the event starts on Friday with a Welcome Back party at Ramunto’s in Bennington, then continues on Saturday at Howard Park in Shaftsbury for an alumni soccer game.
The game will start at 2 p.m. and soccer alumni from all classes can sign up to play. Registration is $25 until June 30 and $30 after that.
The Blue Lollipop Road Memorial Travel Scholarship will be awarded in honor of former MAU soccer players Maria Greene and Brandy Brown.

Lady Patriots camp
BENNINGTON -- The Lady Patriot Basketball School will run the week of July 14 through the 18th at Mount Anthony Union High School for players between the ages of 7 and 14.

Lax camp registration
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Youth Lacrosse Camp for boys will be held from July 14 to July 17 at Willow Park in Bennington.
Boys from kindergarten through second grade will go from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. with a registration fee of $75, while grade three through 10 will go from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a registration fee of $150.

Benn Basketball School looking for campers
BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony Union High School boys basketball coach Dan Sleeman is still accepting basketball players for his Bennington Basketball School for Boys camp. The program will run from July 7 through July 11. Age group 12-15 will practice from 8 a.m. to noon, while the 7-11 age group will run from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
This is the 43rd year of the Bennington Basketball School.

SVC basketball camp
BENNINGTON -- Registration is open for the Southern Vermont College basketball camp. Interested boys and girls entering grades 3 to 11 can sign up by going to the SVC website and downloading a camp brochure.
The camp will run four separate weeks: June 30 to July 2, July 14 to 18, July 21 to 25 and August 4 to 8. Each day’s session goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Friday from the last three weeks ending at noon.
