Readsboro man found dead in submerged car

WHITINGHAM — A 61-year-old Readsboro man was found dead Saturday when his car was pulled from the Sherman Reservoir near the Vermont-Massachusetts border.

Vermont State Police said that Nelson Rix was the only person in the vehicle, a 2002 Volvo V70. Rix is believed to have been traveling north along Tunnel Street when his car left its lane and slid right. Rix's vehicle then went through a section of trees, over an embankment and into the reservoir. The Vermont State Police received a report of a vehicle in the Sherman Reservoir at just past 9 a.m. Saturday.

The vehicle has been removed from the reservoir.

Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Readsboro and Whitingham Fire Departments. Members of the Brattleboro Dive Team also assisted along with members of the North Adams, Mass., Ambulance Service.

The accident is under investigation.
