Pownal parolee arrested for possession of child pornography


BRUNSWICK, N.Y. -- State Police in Brunswick have arrested a parolee from Vermont for possession of child pornography.

Following a six-month investigation, troopers arrested Michael P. Morgan, 36, of Pownal, Vt.

In December, troopers received a complaint that a man was secretly recording a female in the shower at a residence in the Town of Hoosick. A search warrant was executed on Morgan’s cell phone, police report, and he was arrested on March 18 on charges of second-degree unlawful surveillance, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child. Morgan was arraigned in Hoosick Town Court by Justice Thomas Restino and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail.

Following Morgan’s arrest, several electronic items were taking into evidence.

Additional search warrants were executed on those electronics and several pictures of child pornography were found. On May 21, Morgan was charged with additional felonies of promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child. He was arraigned in Pittstown Town Court by Justice Kenneth Marbot.

Morgan was additionally charged with the felony possession of child pornography on June 5. He was arraigned in Hoosick Town Court by town Justice Richard Whalen.

Morgan, who is on parole in the state of Vermont, is currently being held in Rensselaer County Jail.

Troopers were assisted by the State Police Computer Crime unit, Rensselaer County Child Protection Services, and the State of Vermont Community Supervision.
