Posted

POWNAL -- Someone broke into the Mahican Moccasin Shop on Route 7 between New Year’s Eve and Jan. 2 and took more than $400 from the cash register.

Vermont State Trooper Lauren Ronan said the shop’s owner, Charles Gray, reported the theft on Jan. 2 at noon. He believes it happened between 1 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 11:30 a.m. Jan. 2. Entry was made by kicking in a back door. Aside from the money, nothing else in the shop appeared to have been touched.

Ronan said witnesses reported hearing either snowmobiles or all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the area between 10 and 11 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Police are following up on multiple leads, but anyone with additional information is asked to call State Police at 802-442-5421. Tips can be sent anonymously at www.vtips.com or by texting to the number 274637 (CRIMES) the keyword "VTIPS" followed by the tip.
