Post 13 goes 1-3 in weekend series
BENNINGTON — Post 13 dropped a double-header on Saturday against Lakes Region, but came back on Sunday to split a double-header with Randolph.
On Saturday, Post 13 fell to Lakes Region 3-2 in Game 1 and 6-2 in Game 2. The next day, they traveled to Randolph and traded 7-6 decisions.
Pat Powers was the big hitter on Saturday, with three hits against Lakes Region, including a triple and two singles. He leads the team in batting average and slugging.
Post 13 drops to 2-14 overall and has two games remaining, one that ended after press time on Monday and the finale on Wednesday at home against Randolph.
Goldsmith tournament August 13
BENNINGTON >> The eighth annual Lee Goldsmith soccer tournament will take place on August 13 at Willow Park. The tournament, named in honor of former Mount Anthony soccer player Lee Goldsmith, who died in 2009 after a battle with cancer, brings together dozens of local soccer players to the area.
Players have to be enrolled in high school in September and all-male or co-ed team, with at least four male players, are allowed.
Teams will have six field players and a goalkeeper for 25-minute mini-games and play begins at 11 a.m.
Teams must be registered before August 13 by calling or texting Mike Molloy at 802-375-4006. The cost to register is $70 per team.
Vermont soccer official training
BENNINGTON >> Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Vermont Soccer Officials Association and becoming eligible to officiate varsity and sub-varsity soccer games is encouraged to attend one of two trainings in Southern Vermont.
The first training is at Black River High School Cafeteria on Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. with a follow up scrimmage instruction on July 28 at Dothan Brook School in Hartford at 5:30 p.m.
The second training is being held at Whitcomb High School in Bethel on August 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The training includes learning the rules of the game, a test, and a field practice. The cost of the program is $75 which includes the cost of the membership in the VSOA for this year. Werner holding annual soccer camps
ARLINGTON >> Retired Arlington and Castleton soccer coach John Werner will again be running soccer camps locally. Werner and his experienced staff are committed to providing a quality camp experience, with the emphasis on learning and fun, at a reasonable cost.
The two remaining camps sessions are as follows:
The Arlington Soccer Camp for those entering grades 1 through 8 will be held the week of Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. until noon at Arlington High School.
This camp also emphasizes the technical development of each player as well as small group tactics.
The Arlington Senior Soccer Camp for those entering grades 9 through 12 will be held the week of Aug. 1 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Arlington High School.
This camp includes position specific training.

SVC cross-country camp
BENNINGTON >> Southern Vermont College head cross country and track and field coach Kathleen Newton has announced that she will be holding her first summer clinic on Tuesday, August 9 at the SVC campus.
The event will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and is intended for children entering grades 7-12. The cost is $50 per participant with all proceeds to benefit the SVC cross country programs. In the event of rain, the clinic will be held Wednesday, August 10. The camp will begin at the Mountaineer Athletic Center.
Members of the Southern Vermont cross country teams will be on hand to guide the partakers through the day and around the College campus. Activities will include showing how to properly warm up, the teaching of correct running technique, strength exercises, injury prevention and treatment, and a stretching session. The Mountaineers will also lead the participants on trail runs around the SVC campus.
