Police seek suspect in Putnam Street armed robbery

BENNINGTON — Police are searching for a man who broke into a Putnam Street home, threatened an occupant with a weapon and made off with valuables early Tuesday morning.

The suspect was described as five feet, seven inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, wearing a blue bandana over the lower portion of his face, a black coat and jeans, according to the Bennington Police Department.

Police responded to the Putnam Street home at approximately 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. They said a man had smashed out a door window, threatened an indvididual with a weapon and demanded valuables from the residence.

The man fled on foot after taking valuables from the residence and the direction of travel is unknown.

The victims were not injured, according to police. Police did not say what type of weapon was used or what was stolen.

The incident remains under investigation. Bennington Police Det. Lawrence Cole is the investigating officer.
