Police seek suspect in bank robbery

Staff reports

BENNINGTON>> Police are searching for a male suspect who robbed the Heritage Family Credit Union Friday afternoon.

The man was described as being in his 20's or 30's, wearing a brown or black colored hooded sweatshirt with front pockets, which appeared to have construction dust on it. He wore a baseball cap with a black, grey and white brim and had scruffy facial hair.

The man entered the bank at 206 Pleasant St. just before 1 p.m. and passed a note to the teller demanding money. Police said there was no visible weapon, but the note did contain a threat.

The man was then seen riding a bicycle headed east on Pleasant Street. He stopped at a white building at the corner of Pleasant and Main Street and entered a vehicle.

As the suspect fled, money was falling from his pockets onto the ground, and some bills were subsequently picked up by bystanders. Police were attempting to recover the money. One person was arrested in connection with picking up the money.

It's unclear how much money was stolen in the robbery.

Anyone with information should contact the Bennington Police Department 802-442-1030.
