The checkpoints will take place in Bennington between Dec. 13 and Dec. 31.
"Participation will focus on removing impaired drivers from the roadway, seat belt enforcement, other motor vehicle violations and a reduction in overall vehicle crashes," Lt. David Dutcher with the Bennington police said in a news release. "Motorists are urged to use a designated driver whenever necessary and to wear safety belts."
SHAFTSBURY— A teenage driver was uninjured after the car he was driving struck a deer on Route 7A Sunday night, according to Vermont State Police.
Jackson Lane, 16, of Arlington was traveling south near the 2800 block at about 9:20 p.m. when a deer entered the road in the path of the 2001 Toyota Camry he was driving, police said. Lane was unable to avoid the deer and struck it with the front end of the vehicle. Lane was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The sedan received significant front end damage and was towed from the scene by Leblanc's Auto of Bennington.
