Jewelry stolen from Arlington home

ARLINGTON -- State police said a large amount of jewelry was stolen from the home of an 84-year-old woman sometime between 3 p.m. on Jan. 16 and 9 a.m. on Jan. 18. The home was on Old Mill Road and belongs to Phyllis Allen, police said.

Anyone with information on the break-in is asked to contact Trooper Dave Ferencik at 802-442-5421. Information can also be passed to police anonymously through www.vtips.info or by sending a text message to 274637 (CRIMES) with the keyword " VTIPS" followed by the tip itself.

Driver injured in crash

POWNAL -- A driver lost control of her vehicle Wednesday and collided with another on Route 7, police said.

Emily Szirbik, 17, of Pownal, was behind the wheel of a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier when she hit a patch of slush. She crashed into a 1990 Volvo being driven by Paul Campbell, 44, of Shaftsbury.

Szirbik and her passenger, Powell Miller, 18, were not injured while Campbell suffered a leg injury and was taken to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
