Jewelry, computer stolen in Pownal

POWNAL -- State Police are seeking information on a burglary that occurred on Niles School Road Wednesday. Police said the intruder forced their way into the home of Linda Sciarappa through a door that had been nailed shut, then forced open a door that had been deadbolted. They took about $1,000 in jewelry and a laptop computer. Sciarappa was not at home during the crime.

Pownal man accused of NY arson

POWNAL -- State Police said a Pownal man planned the burning of a camp in Pittstown, N.Y. on Jan. 13 and will face charges in Vermont as well as New York.

Vermont State Police said they worked with New York State Police for a week, investigating Michael Crawford, 39, of South Stream Road. Police said he burned down a camp on John Henry Road, but planned the crime in Vermont. He was being held by New York authorities as of Tuesday, and is facing arson charges in that state.

He will be in Vermont Superior Court on Monday to face a charge of "inciting a felony," according to police.
