Single-vehicle motorcycle crash
WOODFORD -- On July 19 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Vermont State Police responded to Route 9 in Woodford for a reported motorcycle crash with injury. When police arrived, the operator, Travis Calhoun, 22, of Schaghticoke, N.Y., was being treated for severe road rash. According to several witnesses, Calhoun appeared to be operating his motocycle regularly when there appeared to be some sort of mechanical or operator error. Calhoun was wearing a helmet, but rolled several yards on the pavement after losing control. He was transported to the Southwest Vermont Medical Center for further evaluation. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
Theft of ATV reported
POWNAL -- On July 19 at approximately 4:00 a.m., Henry and Cecily Strohmaier realized that an ATV they use for farm work had been stolen off their front lawn. Vermont State Police troopers responded to the residence. According to the Strohmaiers, the ATV had been stolen some time after 8 p.m. on July 18. Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Alleged domestic assault and violations of conditions of release
POWNAL -- According to police reports, on July 18 at 9:40 a.m., State Police responded to a reported assault between a man and a woman on Cash Place in Pownal. After an investigation at the scene, Marion H. Rapoport was arrested for domestic assault and a conditions of release violation. Rapoport is being held on $1,000 bail at Brattleboro Retreat, pending a psychological evaluation. The court date for the case is set for July 21, at 12:30 p.m.
Update: Charges against Marion H. Rapoport were dismissed by the state on Oct. 6, 2014.
Alleged assault at wedding reception
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- New York state Police in Brunswick arrested 45-year-old David Labrie of Eagle Bridge on Tuesday, July 15 for third-degree assault. Labrie was married on Saturday, July 12, and assaulted an individual at his wedding reception at a residence in Hoosick Falls. A verbal argument between the two men turned violent when Labrie punched the victim several times in the face. The victim, who had a cut and bruises to his face, two chipped teeth and injuries that required stitches, contacted state police about the incident on Monday.
After being contacted by troopers, Labrie turned himself into the Brunswick barracks. He was processes, released and cited to appear in the Town of Hoosick Court on July 24.
