Police: Crash resulted from driver falling asleep

POWNAL — A head on collision occurred on Friday on Route 346 in Pownal after one driver reportedly fell asleep, according to the Bennington County Sheriff's Department.

Police determined that Sean Bradshaw, 18, had fallen asleep while driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy westbound on Route 346, crossed the center line of the road and drove almost head-on into a 2010 Honda CRV, driven by Jennifer Burt, 48, according to a release from the Sheriff's Department.

The crash occurred around 2:10 p.m. on Route 346 near Dean Road. In addition to the Sheriff's Department, Pownal Fire, Pownal Rescue and Bennington Rescue all responded to the incident.

All occupants stated that they were wearing their seat belts at the time of crash. All parties involved were transported to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center emergency room for minor injuries and evaluation, according to the release.

The crash is under investigation at this time.
