Police continue to investigate Vermont day care drowning

WATERBURY, VT. >> State police say they're continuing to investigate whether criminal charges should be brought in the case of a 3-year-old boy who wandered into a brook and drowned near a Vermont day care.

Officials have said Parker Berry of Hyde Park died accidentally last month as a result of drowning. Police say he was spotted by Elephant in the Field day care staff and pulled from the Thatcher Brook.

Lt. Lance Burnham told The Burlington Free Press Thursday that police are waiting on more information before sending the case to the Washington County State's Attorney's Office for review. Burnham says that could happen as early as Friday.

A Department for Children and Families spokeswoman says the agency has been looking into possible neglect or abuse and whether regulations were broken.
