Police arrest Pennsylvania fugitive in Dorset
DORSET -- Police said they arrested a man wanted in Pennsylvania for allegedly stealing over $20,000 from a youth soccer team.
Vermont State Police Trooper Lauren Ronan wrote that on Thursday her agency was contacted by Pennsylvania State Police saying they believed Daniel G. Deets, 38, was in East Dorset. Deets, the soccer team’s former treasurer, has been charged in Pennsylvania with taking money from the team’s accounts and putting it to personal uses. He was scheduled for a court hearing in Pike County, Pa., but did not appear and so a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Ronan said Deets was arrested in East Dorset without incident and held for lack of $50,000 bail while being charged in Vermont as a fugitive. He was scheduled to be arraigned on that charge Friday in Bennington, according to Ronan, but local court officials said the hearing would be done in Rutland. As of Friday afternoon court records did not show Deets had been arraigned but according to the Vermont Offender Locator Deets is still lodged at the Rutland jail.
