Police: Alcohol a factor in crash with child passenger

Posted
POWNAL — Police say a Bennington woman was impaired by alcohol when she crashed her vehicle into a utility pole early Wednesday morning with a young child in the car.

Vermont State Police said they responded at 4:24 a.m. to Route 7 near Peaks Pine Road for a reported crash. They discovered that a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Shannon Pinsonneault, 24, was traveling north when it left the road and hit the pole. Police said Pinsonneault was under the influence of alcohol and sustained minor injuries. They did not say how old the child was, what its relationship to Pinsonneault is, or if it suffered any injuries.

Pinsonneault was arrested and released on citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on June 5 to answer charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and cruelty to a child.

The Pownal Fire Department, Pownal Rescue Squad, Walt's Towing, and Green Mountain Power assisted at the scene.
