Patriots drop close decision to Milton

MILTON — Carson Morgan recovered a fumble in the end zone and Gavin Johnson also had a touchdown, but the Mount Anthony football team dropped a razor-thin 20-13 decision on the road at Milton on Friday night.

Morgan scored to end a long drive in the first quarter to give MAU the 6-0 lead before Milton responded on the next possession, a 63-yard catch and run from Tre Sherwood.

Early in the second quarter, Johnson caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Will Fischer to take a 13-8 lead, which the Patriots carried into halftime.

Sherwood returned the second half kickoff 76 yards to give Milton the lead back, 14-13 and then later in the third, Trent Cross caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Laware to make it 20-13.

With three minutes left, the Jackets made a stop on fourth-and-six inside the red zone to seal the victory.

Fischer led a deep and balanced MAU rushing attack with 40 yards on 13 carries. Aaron Mattison chipped in with 38 yards on six totes. Johnson finished with 60 receiving yards on four catches.

Seth Herrity ran for 176 yards on 20 carries to lead the Yellowjackets.

MAU is 2-2 and travels to South Burlington next week.

Patriots swept by Spartans

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Mount Anthony volleyball team dropped a 3-0 game on the road to Monument Mountain on Friday.

The Spartans won 25-17, 25-17 and 25-4.

Emilie O'Brien had three aces and four digs, while Amber Metcalfe added a pair of aces. Jonna Loomis led the way with five kills and Mackenzie Mayhew and Carly Bylina each had a pair of assists.

Bulldogs win Homecoming game in OT

MANCHESTER — The Burr and Burton boys soccer team scored a 2-1 overtime victory on Homecoming at Applejack Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Patrick Meyer scored to give Leland and Gray the lead before Ben Stewart equalized at the 25-minute mark.

Stewart struck again on a free kick to clinch the win for the Bulldogs. BBA plays Essex on Monday on Taylor Field.

Panthers win Wasaren tournament

MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. — The Wasaren League teams got together Friday for the annual Chicken Parm Tournament at the Mechanicville Country Club. with Hoosick Falls and the team of Connor Smith, Stephanie Merwin, Ryan Bloomer and Coach Pam Hatfield won with a score of 6 under par.

Panthers speed past Valley

SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. — The Hoosick Falls girls soccer team had four different goal scorers in a 4-1 win over Hoosic Valley on Friday.

Darian Morgan, Taylor Mann, Grace Wysocki and Sydney Eggsware all found the back of the net for the Panthers, who are 5-3-1 on the year.

Phoebe Thomson and Morgan also added assists. Maddie Yeung had three saves to earn the win in the net.

Coach Tom Husser also cited excellent play from Josie Ryan and Sky Haynes as well.

Cambridge topples Witches

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. — Miranda Seacord scored twice to lead the Cambridge girls soccer team to a 4-1 win over Greenwich on Friday afternoon. Seacord's first goal came off an assist from Lauryn Spiezio, while the second was unassisted.

Hailey Herrington scored off an assist from Vanessa Evans and Lily Phillips added a score, also assisted by Spiezio.

Lauren Maines was the goal-scorer for the Witches.

Victoria Dupuis made five stops for the Indians, who are 6-2, while Helen Smith had 14 saves for Greenwich.
