Panthers falls short of upset against Tamarac
The final twist went in the favor of the Bengals though, as Tamarac went on to top the Panthers 55-50 in Hoosick.
Hoosick Falls got out and took control early as they held a four-point lead after one. The Bengals stifled the Panthers in the second frame to hold a three-point lead heading into the halftime break.
With a tie-game after three quarters, it was Tamarac who came out focused in the fourth. The Bengals went into a press on defense and Hoosick Falls had trouble holding onto the ball. Tamarac would go on an 8-2 run to put themselves in complete control.
The Panthers were able to go come back, on the back of some nice play from star sophomore Logan Thayne, who showed some range and knocked down a 3 to bring some momentum back to her side. Eventually though, the favored Bengals were able to take back control through and iced the game with some free throws.
Junior Renna Poulin paced Tamarac Friday night. She scored a game-high 26 points in the contest. Guard Emily Erickson had a strong game as well with 13. Point guard Kayla Doody added nine for the Bengals and did a nice job running the offense and facilitating her team's play.
Thayne had another strong night for the Panthers. The Hoosick Falls center scored 22 points and was strong in both halves, scoring more than 10 points in each half. Seniors Eliza Whitman and Noreen McAuliffe were strong as well with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Panthers are back in action Monday at home against Mount Anthony.
