Panthers fall to Sabres 4-0

TROY, N.Y. - The Schalmont Sabres were able to beat the Hoosick Falls Central School Panthers 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to win the Section II Class B/BB girls soccer title, but the Panthers wouldn't make it easy for them.
The Sabres came out in the first half on Saturday and took control of possession right away. But the through the first 40 minutes, the team could not find a way around Hoosick Falls goalie Hannah Fricke and the Panthers defense.
For every attack that was thrown forward by Schalmont, Hoosick Falls was able to stop the danger. By the end of the half, Fricke tallied nine saves.
And at the start of the second half, the Panthers nearly nipped the lead.
Within the first two minutes of the half, the Panthers built an attack that ended up at the feet of Jordyn Haynes. Haynes squared up, and tried to put a curling effort past Schalmont goalie Gabrielle Juers.
But Juers was able to get her hand on the ball to palm it away, keeping it 0-0.
A minute later, and the Sabres would finally find a goal.
Rachel Cardinal put a cross into the box that Bianca Mascitelli was able to get under. Chipping the ball up, Mascitelli was able to get it over the head of Fricke, and underneath the crossbar to break the deadlock.
11 minutes later, and Molly Older would double the lead after finishing a pass from Emily Culbert.
Hoosick Falls' Rachel Pine came close to cutting the deficit, but the midfielder missed by inches when her shot hit off of a Schalmont player, then the outside of the right post, for a corner.
In the final five minutes, Madeline Saccocio and Cardinal would each score for Schalmont to give the game the 4-0 score.
Fricke ended with 12 saves. The Panthers end the season with a 17-3-0 record, while the Sabres advance to the regional playoffs with a 20-0-0 record.
