Panthers earn Class C honors

HOOSICK, N.Y. — A handful of Hoosick Falls football players were picked as Class C North all-stars after the Super Bowls this weekend.

On first team offense, the Panthers, who finished 5-4 this season and fell in the Class C semifinal to Stillwater, had running back Drew Hoag, wide receiver Nick Giordano and offensive lineman Ian Carknard.

Hoag ran for 573 yards and six touchdowns, while Giordano led the Panthers with 30 catches for 493 yards and four touchdowns. Carknard was the anchor on an offense to racked up more than 317 yards a game.

On the first-team defense, linebacker Dmitri Rose, defensive lineman Nate Miller and Lucas Brogue earned all-star honors.

Rose had 62 tackles, six for loss and a sack in his first year on varsity, while Miller had 41 tackles, six for loss and two sacks. Brogue, also the Panthers' kicker and punter, had 42 tackles.

On second-team offense, quarterback Sam Richard, running back Max Kipp, wide receiver Isaac Friel and offensive lineman Zach Tomczak made the cut. Richard completed 93-of-181 for 1,434 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while running for another 285 yards and 10 touchdowns. Kipp added 413 yards and a score on the ground, while Friel caught 11 balls for 196 yards and four touchdowns.

On the second team defense were lineman Craig Sawyer and defensive back Jeffery Vincent. Sawyer led the team with four sacks, while Vincent added 16 stops in five games.

MAYAA registration

BENNINGTON — The Mount Anthony Youth Athletic Association will host one more night of signup for its basketball program.

The registration will be today from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Bennington Elementary School.

The board will be at the registrations for parents to ask questions.

The cost is $40 per child or $70 per family.

MAYAA is for kids from grades 1 to 6.
