Organizers say Mayfest still ‘uplifting’ despite downpour

Thursday May 30, 2013

BENNINGTON -- Despite Saturday’s poor weather, this year’s Mayfest was still deemed a successful one by both the public and the Better Bennington Corporation’s executive director, John Shannahan.

"This year definitely gave me a new perspective on the event," said Shannahan. "I was so pleased to see local businesses stepping up to the plate."

Shannahan and the other members of the BBC applaud the Masonic temple, Madison’s Brew Pub, and Crazy Russian Girls, a few of the many local businesses that opened their doors to both musicians needing to be moved indoors, and to chilly festival-goers needing a dry place to warm up.

The BBC will soon be sending out special thank you notes to the 100+ vendors that participated in the festival, even under the rainy circumstances.

"Overall, it was an uplifting experience," Shannahan said. "But we look forward to better weather next year."
