Old First Church to hold tag sale Saturday

BENNINGTON -- The Old First Congregational Church will be holding its seventh annual community tag sale on Saturday, June 7, at "the garage," 1 Monument Circle, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Peter M. Goodrich Memorial Foundation, the Bennington Interfaith Council Food and Fuel Fund and general church projects.

The Goodrich Foundation supports the education of Afghan students, by funding the relocation of Afghan children to live and study in Bennington. The Interfaith Council operates the Kitchen Cupboard food pantry, 800 Gage St., to provide free food to those that need it.

Church members have been organizing and pricing housewares, children’s items, tools, crafts and art this week in preparation. They will raise a tent across from the parking lot to sell furniture, where families can purchase food from a hot dog vendor and bake sale outside on the monument lawn.

"It is really a fun way to get to know each other, and perhaps a new member. We have a great time," said church member and sale organizer Marsha Pilachowski. "It’s one of the most cohesive events we do and it’s a way to give back to the community. We are not just a little church on a hill: We are an active church."

Anyone is welcome to donate items, and church volunteers will accept donations excluding books and clothing up until Friday morning.

"We get donations from the congregation, friends of the church and neighbors, everyone is very generous. This sale has taken to be more of a community event because our proceeds go not only to the church," Pilachowski said.
