SHAFTSBURY -- A single-vehicle crash in Shaftsbury occurred after the driver lost traction on loose gravel at the end of Stateline Road near the New York border.

In a written release, state police said neither the driver, Shayne Olson, 25, of Bennington, nor his passenger were injured in the crash. Police said Olson reported that he was turning off White Creek Road at the time when he lost control, causing the vehicle to hit a large dead tree near the intersection.

The 2005 Jeep Liberty received extensive damage to its front grill and engine compartment. Police said the initial report came in at about 7:43 p.m. When troopers arrived, Olson was returning to the scene after walking to get help. No charges were reported.
