BENNINGTON >> Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) seeks nominations for the 2016 SVHC Vision Awards. These awards recognize one physician and one community member whose ideas and hard work improve health in Southwestern Vermont and the surrounding area. The Vision Awards were first presented in September 2010.

"The Vision Awards are an important tradition, because they acknowledge the commitment and contributions of our local leaders and provide the role models we need to realize our vision of a healthy, vibrant community," said Thomas A. Dee, FACHE, SVHC's president and CEO.

The Health Care Leadership Award recognizes a physician who demonstrates excellence in medical practice and patient care and whose service is aimed at improving health care in SVHC's service area. The honoree may be actively practicing or retired, but he or she must currently live in a community served by SVHC. Past honorees include: Drs. Richard Dundas, Richard Guerrero, James Keenan, Manindra Ghosh, Philip Martinez, and Robert Pezzulich.

The Distinguished Community Service Award honors a member of the community for his or her commitment, support, and service to SVHC's mission and vision. Past honorees include: Lila Cestone; Norman Greenberg and the Greenberg Family; Roby Harrington, III; Donald Kendall, III; Richard Pembroke, Sr.; and Rev. Thomas Steffen.

The health system asks the community to assist in nominating recipients of this year's awards. Members of the public, physicians, SVHC employees, and volunteers are all invited to nominate individuals they believe exemplify the spirit of the Vision Awards.

To make a nomination go to www.svhealthcare.org/harvestball or call the SVHC Foundation Office at (802) 447-5017 for a paper nomination form. The deadline for nominations is June 14, 2016.

Nominations will be reviewed by a committee comprised of members of the Foundation Board of Directors and SVHC Trustees. The winner will be selected and announced in June. The awards will be presented at the 7th Annual Harvest Ball on September 10 at the 1768 Hubbell Homestead at Colgate Park in Bennington.
