New exec director at Vermont workers' union

BURLINGTON (AP) - The legislative director for the union representing Vermont state workers has been named its executive director.

Steve Howard is replacing Mark Mitchell at the 5,400-member Vermont State Employees' Association. Mitchell has resigned to move to Florida.

The Burlington Free Press reports the 42-year-old Howard of Montpelier says he would continue the work Mitchell did to grow membership and mobilize members at their work sites.

He has been legislative director since January 2013 and was a victims' advocate in the Chittenden County State's Attorney's office and member of the state House.
