Mountaineers fall to Norwich
BENNINGTON >> The Southern Vermont College women's lacrosse team dropped back-to-back home games to start off the season after losing 8-5 to Norwich on Wednesday afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0 to start of the game, the Mountaineers came back with goals from freshman's Hailee Walker and Sydnee Julian to tie the game up at two all.
Norwich answered SVC's run with a goal at the 24 minute mark to regain the lead and go into the half up 3-2.
In the second half, Norwich just like they did to begin the game, got off to a hot start, scoring two quick goals to give themselves a three goal advantage.
Needing another answer to the Cadets' run, Walker once again came through for the Mountaineers, scoring her team-high second goal of the game to cut the Norwich lead to two.
The Cadets, though, came right back at SVC with another two goal run and made it a four goal game with 15 minutes to go in the contest.
Junior Emily Lesure then scored a goal for the Mountaineers with 12 minutes to go to make it a three goal game, but that would be the closest SVC got as them and Norwich traded goals the rest of the way, dropping SVC to 0-2 on the season.
The Mountaineers will look again to win their first game of the season when they travel to play Becker on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Hoosick Falls drops season opener.
ALBANY, N.Y. >> They fought hard, but the Hoosick Falls Central School girls lacrosse team could not come out on top in their first game of the season, falling to Albany High School 13-9.
Junior Ashley Foster, and seniors Jordyn Haynes and Kara LaFlamme, all had two goals scored in the loss for the Panthers.
Senior Rachael Lewsey and sophomore Mackenzie Sprague each scored a goal in the game for Hoosick Falls as well.
The Panthers will try to get their first win of the season again when they travel to play Wasaren League rival Greenwich on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
