Bennington Republicans hold caucus
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Town Republican Committee will hold a caucus for reorganization and the election of officers on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Bank North room above the Bennington Free Library.
Film and Discussion Series presents "Buddy Films"
MANCHESTER -- Don't miss Mark Skinner Library's Film and Discussion Series with Harvey Flaxman. View and discuss three iconic "Buddy Films" at Manchester's public library.
The series begins on Thursday, Oct. 10 with a viewing of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", winner of 4 Academy awards and starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katherine Ross. Rated PG. Running time: 110 minutes.
Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy play the tough cop and cool convict in "48 Hours", which will be screened on Thursday, Oct. 17. Rated R. Running time: 92 minutes.
Not to be outdone, the ladies take a turn in "Thelma & Louise", starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis with a very young Brad Pitt in his first significant role. Rated R. Running time: 133 minutes.
Professor Emeritus Harvey Flaxman will facilitate the program. Flaxman was the department chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Farleigh Dickinson University. He is an Academy Award nominated film producer as well as a screenwriter and actor.

Shaftsbury Selectboard Vacancies
SHAFTSBURY -- Petitions to run for selectboard are available at the town clerk's office. A special town meeting will be held on Dec. 3.
Shaftsbury voters will have the opportunity to vote by ballot for the two vacated selectboard seats. William Obenauer's unexpired 3-year term expires in March, 2015. Mitchell Race is currently appointed.
Craig Bruder's unexpired 2-year term will expire in March, 2015. Timothy Scoggins is currently appointed.
The last day to submit a petition for office is Monday, Oct. 28, in order to have one's name placed on the Dec. 3 ballot.
