CES kindergarten orientation

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Cambridge Elementary School has announced that plans have been finalized for the kindergarten orientation process for the 2014-2015 school year. Parents of children residing in the Cambridge School District who will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2014 should contact the elementary office at 518-677-8527, ext. 1416 to provide the district with the required information. This information will assist in developing the kindergarten lists for the upcoming school year.

An informational meeting intended only for parents on next year's kindergarten students will be held at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium.

At this meeting, parents will meet and learn about our program from the kindergarten teachers. Administrators and other school personnel will describe the intent and scope of the kindergarten screening process. Learning strategies and techniques will be provided for parents to help prepare their child for kindergarten. Parents will be able to sign-up for appointments to have their child(ren) screened.

The school nurse will review the New York State health department requirements and registration packets will be distributed. Parents who are unable to attend the informational meeting should stop by the elementary office after Thursday, April 24 to sign-up for a screening appointment and to pick up their registration materials.

Hoosick Falls Central School kindergarten registration

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Hoosick Falls Elementary School has finalized the process for kindergarten registration and screening for the 2014-2015 school year. Parents of children residing in the Hoosick Falls Central School District who will be five years old on or before Dec. 1, should contact the elementary office as soon as possible at 518-686-9492 to provide the district with required information. This information will be used to create a mailing list for future events, including kindergarten screening.

An informational meeting for parents and guardians only will be held at 6 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria. Parents will receive important information regarding medical requirements and concerns, transportation, and the school breakfast and lunch program. They will also have the opportunity to meet all of the Kindergarten teachers and briefly preview the curriculum as they rotate through the classrooms.

An additional component of the kindergarten registration process is Kindergarten Screening which is scheduled for June 23 to 25. More detailed information pertaining to the screening will be provided at the informational meeting for parents. Registration packets are available through the elementary office.

Bingo at Pownal Legion

POWNAL -- American Legion Post 90 in Pownal holds bingo on Thursdays. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. promptly. There will be two progressive games, and a snack bar will be available.

Bennington Free Clinic

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. It is located in the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. Call 802-447-3700 for an appointment to be seen.

Showing of ‘Girl Rising'

DORSET -- Long Trail School will offer a free public viewing of the documentary "Girl Rising." This film shares the stories of nine girls from a variety of places in the developing world who achieve their dreams in spite of great challenges. This presentation will be held in the Long Trail theater on April 24 at 6:30 p.m.

The film is designed to raise awareness and inspire individuals to act on behalf of every girl. The girls in this film struggle against the cycle of poverty and rise above issues such as domestic slavery and sex trafficking, early marriage and domestic violence.

Parent information night

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- On Thursday, April 24, Hoosick Falls Central School will be sponsoring its annual Parent Night for incoming kindergartners from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

The introduction will begin promptly at 6 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria. The night gives parents/guardians of incoming kindergartners the opportunity to meet the superintendent, school board president, principal, kindergarten teachers, school nurse, transportation supervisor and cafeteria supervisor. You will also be able to tour the school, see the kindergarten classrooms and ask any questions you have pertaining to the district, school and/or classroom.

This night is designed solely for the parents/guardians. We are asking that children do not attend as they will have the opportunity to meet the teachers and see the school during screening in June. This will give all parties the opportunity to ask questions and have discussions with the staff concerning their children in the given time.

Kindergarten registration in Sunderland

SUNDERLAND -- Sunderland Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration and screening from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The child must live in Sunderland and be five years of age on or before Jan. 1, 2015. Parents need to bring the child's birth certificate and immunization record. Appointments will be set up by calling the school at 802-375-6100.

Senior Art Project exhibit

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' Gallery 51 will celebrate the artistic achievements of the students in this year's "Senior Art Project" course with "Elemental Connections," an exhibition to feature a range of mediums, including drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, book arts and digital illustration. The exhibition, which will run through May 25, will begin with an opening reception on Thursday, April 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

One World needs volunteers
