Pownal Legion bingo

POWNAL -- American Legion Post 90 in Pownal holds bingo on Thursdays. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. promptly. Snack bar available. Cookie jar and progressive games will be played. Everyone is invited to attend.

Bennington Free Clinic hours

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic is held each Thursday starting at 6 p.m. This clinic is for uninsured people 18 years of age or older, who would otherwise fall through the cracks of our fractured health care system. It is located in the First Baptist Church at 601 Main St. Call 802-447-3700 for an appointment to be seen.

North Bennington Food Shelf

NORTH BENNINGTON -- The Food Shelf at the North Bennington Baptist Church is open every Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Infant-toddler playgroups

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Bennington County Head Start in collaboration with Building Bright Futures and the Vermont Agency of Human Services is hosting Infant Toddler Playgroups on Thursdays, from April 26 through June 5, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the North Bennington Head Start Cottage.

This is a parent-child, drop-in playgroup including art, music and movement, story time, snack, outdoor play and discussion. For more information, contact Beth Wallace at or call 802-442-3686 ext. 231.

Season opening reception

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Park McCullough House Association announces the 2014 Season Opening Reception to celebrate a Summer of arts, entertainment and history coming to life.

Join members and friends in the Carriage Barn to kick off the summer at Park McCullough House. Pick up a schedule of concerts and theatrical events. Meet actors and musicians who will perform throughout the season.

The Membership Meeting will be held at 4 p.m. and following from 5 to 7 p.m. the reception and croquet signup will be held. Everyone is welcome; admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.

Turkey supper

GRANVILLE, N.Y. -- A family-style turkey supper will be held at the Middle Granville Presbyterian Church on Route 22A from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu will include turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, cole slaw, homemade rolls and pies, and beverages. Take-out and gift certificates are available. Tickets at the door; adults, $8; children 5 to 12, $4; under 4 are free.

Healthier Living workshop starts

BENNINGTON -- A Healthier Living Workshop of 5 sessions oon Thursdays, May 29 through June 26, 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. will be held at SVMC.

Chronic health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, lung disease, arthritis or diabetes don't have to control your life.

In this workshop, developed by Stanford University, you can learn ways to get things done that you have been putting off, stay optimistic, cope with frustrations and fears, manage pain and stress, beat fatigue, improve communication, and increase self-confidence. Meet others coping with similar challenges. Family and supportive friends also welcome. This event is free. Sponsored by the VT Blueprint for Health.

Senior Center activities

BENNINGTON -- On Thursdays in May, the Senior Center will host bone builders from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., and from 10 to 11:15 a.m., RSVP. It will also host quilting from 1 to 3 p.m. and beginning belly dance from 5 to 7:30 p.m. This week it will also have a trip to see "Putting It together" at Mac-Haydn Theatre from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Small business owners invited to workshop

BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center (VT PTAC) invites small business owners to a free workshop on "Understanding Your BidMatch Results."

The workshop will be held in Bennington from 10 a.m. to noon at Community College of Vermont, 324 Main St. This two-hour workshop is designed to help Vermont businesses understand the bid opportunity notification system VT PTAC provides to its clients. The MyBidMatch service brings businesses the most comprehensive database of bid opportunities on the market, and easy-to-use, web-based tools that allow users to filter those bid opportunities.

Workshop participants will learn the basics of MyBidMatch notices, reviewing search results, identifying procurement data sources, responding to solicitations and more.

Dedication ceremony for Chestnut Nursery

BENNINGTON -- A brief dedication ceremony for the American Chestnut Nursery will be held at Mount Anthony Union Middle School to honor the hard work and dedication of students in the MAUMS Sustainable Living Class, members of the Catamount Rotary Club, the Vermont/New Hampshire Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation and the generosity and commitment of Marshal Case, former president of the ACF, who made this project possible.

The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed by a reception serving pizza made from einkorn, an ancient middle-eastern grain, prepared by students in Ms. Fields Social Studies Class. Additional presentations of student work will be offered for the edification of all.

This event is open to the public.

Public concert at Bennington College

NORTH BENNINGTON -- The 2014 graduating class of Bennington College will offer a free public concert for Bennington and North Bennington. Musical selections will include classical, folk, pop and more.

Refreshments will be provided. Event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Vermont Arts Exchange on Sage Street.
