Legislative forum on elder issues

BENNINGTON -- The Community of Vermont Elders, Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging and Bennington County Retired Teachers Association are hosting a Bennington County Legislative Forum on elder issues today from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Second Congregational Church on Hillside Street. This event, free and open to the public, is co-sponsored by AARP Vermont, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Regional Affordable Housing Corporation, Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition, and VNA of Southwestern Vermont Health Center. Light refreshments will be provided. Local citizens who need a ride to this event may leave a message for Kelly at 802-440-1528.

Bennington County state senators and representatives have been invited to the forum to listen and discuss issues of interest to their elder constituents. While people of any age are welcome, the focus will be on elder concerns. COVE is a 501-c-3 nonprofit whose mission is to promote and protect a higher quality of life for Vermont’s elders, through education and advocacy. Property tax due Nov. 12

BENNINGTON -- Property taxes are due Tuesday, Nov. 12. The town office, 205 Union St., will be open on Monday, Nov. 11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be accepting payments during that time.

Acceptable payment methods are personal check, bank check, money order or cash. Credit cards are not accepted at the Town Office. If you wish to pay by credit card, you must call the phone number for official payments at the bottom of the bill or visi the website.

If you require a stamped receipt, you must bring both portions of the bill with you.
