More letters: Fields: A thank you for those who voted for me

I would like to say thank you to the 799 people who voted for me for selectwoman. It was a tremendously rewarding experience to run for office for the first time in my life. I learned so much and I enjoyed meeting so many people and reconnecting with friends. I grew up in Bennington, it is my home and I intend to participate and work to make improvements to this community.

I decided to run for selectwoman because I believe it is important for women to take leadership roles in building the community we want and need for our children, our seniors and our families. I am inspired to serve by the veteran’s I take care of at the Vermont Veteran’s Home. My goal is and continues to be bringing a sense of compassion and understanding in whatever I do.

I want to thank Vermont Working Families for investing in my campaign and sending out 3 postcards on my behalf. As an ordinary working woman, I never would have been able to afford my campaign without their help. It is reassuring that Working Families is out there to support women like me. Our government should not be limited to candidates simply to those who are well connected and who can afford to fund their own campaigns. The generous support for pro-worker candidates really makes a difference. I am proud to have earned the support of Working Families and I am so grateful for their investment in my campaign.

We built a great team of volunteers whose hard work in cold temperatures was remarkable. I am in awe of how hard they worked for me and I want them to know I appreciate it. I congratulate Justin Corcoran and Michael Keane on their elections and I wish them the best over the next 3 years. I look forward to future opportunities to serve Bennington.
