MAU's Hoyt wins state crown

NORTHFIELD — The Mount Anthony Union High School indoor track team has a new individual state champion after Saturday's state meet at Norwich University.

Sophomore Skyler Hoyt's third jump was his best at 20-04.50 feet and no one could match it — in fact, Hoyt was the only competitor to soar past 20 feet. Four of his jumps were better than CVU's Bose Braven, who finished second in 19-10.50.

The MAU boys finished sixth overall in Division I as a team with 27 points, while the girls were sixth with eight points

The Mount Anthony 4x200 relay team of senior Tanner Jelley, senior Alan Bernard, junior Nilu Chirchirillo and Hoyt also won their event, finishing in a time of 1 minute, 40.04 seconds.

The same relay team was third in the 4x400, finishing in 3:51.17, while freshman Evan Page was seventh in the 3,200, with a time of 10:43.24.

On the girls side, Asuka Kosaki was fifth in the 600 meters, with a time of 1:51.48, while Abbie Crosier set a personal best with a fifth place finish in the 1,000 meters in 3:32.31.

The 4x200 relay with Kosaki, Crosier, sophomore Kaitlin Banks and junior Abby Whitman finished fifth with a time of 2:03.63, while the 4x400 relay with Kosaki, Crosier, Juliette Beatty and Whitman finished fifth in 4:48.21.
