Man cited after Sunderland crash

SUNDERLAND — A Manchester Center man faces a drunk driving charge after his car slid off Kelly Stand Road early Monday, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers were called at about 12:26 a.m. for a vehicle that was operating erratically. The vehicle eventually slid off the roadway and became stuck in the snow before the operator and a passenger left the scene.

A records check showed troopers that the vehicle was registered to Daniel C. Richland, 26. He was later located on North Road in Sunderland.

Police said Richland showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody. He was screened for driving under the influence at the Manchester Police Department. The investigation revealed that he was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Richland was released on a criminal citation for DUI second offense and negligent operation. He's tentatively slated to appear in Bennington criminal court on March 12.
