Man accused of shooting, injuring friend to stand trial

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT. >> Trial dates have been set for a 68-year-old Vermont man accused of shooting and injuring his friend during a fight.

Valley News reports Dennis Dundas of East Bethel is scheduled to stand trial in Windsor Superior Court on Dec. 14, 21 and 22 on an aggravated assault with a weapon charge. Dundas pleaded not guilty in April 2015.

Police say Dundas and 48-year-old Donald Giovanella were inside Dundas' home when a dispute broke out, resulting in the shooting. Officers found Giovanella lying outside the home. Authorities say Dundas appeared in the doorway a short time later.

Court documents said the two were fighting over a bottle of brandy. Dundas says he acted in self-defense.

Giovanella was hospitalized with serious injuries. Court documents say he has a bullet lodged in his spine.
