Ludlow bank robbed by man who jumped bail


LUDLOW >> A convicted bank robber is wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred at the Heritage Family Credit Union on 198 Main St. in Ludlow.

According to a press release from the Vermont State Police, at just before 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, dispatch was notified of a bank robbery. Based on the security camera video and statements from witnesses the suspect was identified as Matthew T. Martin, 31, who at one time listed his place of residence as Weathersfield, where he has family and friends.

During the robbery Martin displayed a black handgun and left on foot out the front door with an undisclosed amount of money. Martin's direction of travel and whether a vehicle was involved in his escape is unconfirmed at this time.

Martin, 31, was born in Rhode Island and is 5' 6" and weighs approximately 125 pounds. According to published reports, he is also wanted for a bank robbery in Loudon, N.H., on Dec. 4. On Dec. 1, the day he was scheduled to appear in court to be sentenced to prison for three robberies, including a gas station in Ludlow, and two banks in Springfield, Martin allegedly robbed the Mascoma Savings Bank in Charlestown, N.H., around 3 p.m., according to the New Hampshire State Police.

According to published reports, Martin's alleged drug habits are fueling his crimes.

He is also wanted in Rhode Island.
