Letters: Thanks from the Shires ReSale Store

Since our late December opening, the Shires ReSale Store in Manchester has been warmly embraced by the Shires area community... and Bennington Area Habitat for Humanity, extends a huge thank you. This Store fulfills our goals of reducing usable items going into the waste stream and offering products of good value at a fraction of retail prices while increasing Bennington Area Habitat’s capacity to help more people in Bennington County meet their housing needs.

We have sold enough that we now have room to receive donations of gently used furniture, building supplies, appliances, tools, home improvement products, selected recreational equipment and more. Donations can be received at the Store during open hours or by calling 802 362-1185 for evaluation and pick up.

The Shires ReSale Store is located at 2012 Route 11-30 traveling east out of Manchester, 1 mile after crossing the RR tracks. We are open Saturdays, 10-5 p.m., and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Items can be viewed on our website http://www.benningtonareahabitat.com/index.php/shiresresalestore.

Thank you for shopping local,

Manchester Lions Club fundraiser for sight and hearing

Thanks to the response from this letter and other fundraisers during 2012 and 2013, we were able to increase our financial guidelines to 125 percent or less of the federal poverty level.

The purpose of our club is to help people with their sight and hearing problems. However, we have had to reject a number of requests because of these guidelines.

This year from July 1 through Dec. 31, we were able to assist our friends and neighbors with 33 pairs of eyeglasses, one hearing aid, one hearing aid repair and a special alarm clock for a deaf student at a total costs of $3,629.99.

This was an increase of 46 percent over last year’s total dollars spent thanks to your generosity.

There are no salaries, rents or other overhead to deplete the funds collected. All donations are distributed in our local area of Bennington, Woodford, and Pownal.

Please send in your contribution today and help us to fulfill our commitment to our local community.

You will receive the gratification of knowing that your donation helped to eliminate the needs of those less fortunate in our community. We thank you in advance for enabling us to help our local people in need.

Please send your donations to: Bennington Lions Club, P.O. Box 491, Bennington, VT 05201.

Our thanks to Joseph Krawczyk

We’d like to take the opportunity on news that he won’t be seeking another term on the Select Board to commend Joseph Krawczyk for his many years of illustrious service to our community and nation, including his current service with the Vermont Veterans’ Board of Trustees.

Our best wishes to Joe for the future.
