Letters: Look for an educator

Having taught history for forty one years at Mount Anthony Middle School, I am reminded of the dictionary definition of education. The derivation is from Latin: "to bring up, rear or train, to lead out." As the SVSU begins the search for a new superintendent, I urge board members to heed the words of education historian Diane Ravitch who advocates for highly qualified teachers, master teachers as principals and most importantly, a superintendent who is an educator, not a person who views schools from a corporate model, as a business. I hope the superintendent search will encompass this philosophy.
