Letters: Letter to Pownal board

This is the content of a letter that was mailed to the Pownal Select Board:

Dear members,

Now that a new select board has been assembled for a few weeks, I firmly believe a deserved public apology is in order to the executive assistant of your board. The reason concerns the alleged embezzlement and fraud investigations lodged against her by two individuals of the 2013 town auditing board.

The unsubstantiated allegations with pursuit of a criminal wrongdoing case may not have proven successful for them, but the experience has left an indelible mark on an innocent town servant.

An apology will not erase the embarrassment, pain and enduring many months of disparagement she has lived through while standing tall and serving the people. It will not erase a "suspicion" documented investigative report which need not have resulted in the first place and remains on record.

However, it will be reassuring for her to know that our town appreciates her exemplary services and regrets the unprecedented actions of those two people of another town board.

The select board’s addressing this issue and taking appropriate steps could ensure a similar major incident does not repeat itself for any town official or employee in the future.

I respectfully request this letter be made a part of the meeting records.

Former member of the
Pownal Listing Board

To the readers of the Bennington Banner:

I, and other veterans, especially those residing at the Vermont Veterans’ Home (VVH) would like to offer up a special thanks to Legion Post 25 of Windsor for their recent financial donation of $3000 which will enable the Home to acquire a special SKYPE Cart. This cart, one of 10 needed, will allow veterans at the VVH to communicate often and conveniently with their immediate family members and with loved ones and friends during their stay at the Home.

Often organizations and individuals express their concern for the comfort of our veterans, but Post 25 through its members, took action and it is appreciated.
