Letters: Beware of mailing to water/sewer customers

I write to alert Bennington’s residents to a mailing that has been sent to a number of our water/sewer customers. It is from American Water Resources of Vermont with a company address in Illinois. It is basically a sales flyer seeking to sell the recipient "insurance" to repair water/ sewer line repairs normally the responsibility of the property owner.

This mailing is not sanctioned by the town nor does the town have any relationship with the company. I urge recipients to use due caution when considering the offer made.

Support efforts to limit carbon pollution

Is it really responsible that America has no limits on carbon pollution from power plants?

The Earth’s climate is getting warmer, and humans are responsible.

That’s not my opinion, that’s a fact supported by more than 97 percent of climate scientists. The outcome over the next 50 years and beyond could include massive heat waves, prolonged drought, extreme weather and the mass extinction of species.

The good news is we can do something about it while helping the economy. We’ve already made a good start by making our cars and trucks more efficient, while starting to limit pollution from the dirtiest power plants, the chief contributor of America’s climate change pollution. To prevent the devastating effects of the climate crisis, we should all support these efforts.
